Meet Youngstown Junior Sailing’s Instructors!

Ryan Suitor

The head sailing instructor in Youngstown. He brings various sailing and professional skill sets. His sailing experience is on the foredeck for a Beneteau 36.7, J-34c, J-88, J-111, and 8 Meter class. He has been sailing since 1998 and has been part of the winning North American Champion Beneteau 36.7. In 2016 he was on a team representing the USA in the Canada Cup. Professionally, Ryan is a school counselor for Orleans Niagara BOCES, where he brings his experience working with children k-12 to the Jr. Sailing program.


 

Joe Egloff 

A life sailor who has been sailing keel boats all his life, in addition to sailing 420s for 2 years at YYC. He also has racing experience in the following classes: Lighting, J/22, J/24, J/70, Beneteau 36.7. Joe has been coaching at YYC for 5 years, including Nutshells, Adventure Sailing, Optis, and 420s. He is very excited to help lead the Opti program this year.



John Huebschmann 

Grew up sailing from an early age, throughout his sailing career up to this point he has competed in multiple national and world-class events in different classes of boats. John went through this program when he was younger and then became an instructor 5 years ago. He started the adventure sail program and has been its lead instructor its inception. John is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology at Buffalo State College.



Dixon Reynolds 

is a lifelong sailor who comes from a large family of sailors. He has been a part of the junior sailing program in Youngstown for 10 years, sailing Prams, Optis, and 420’s in his time in the program. He has competed in many events, including several Opti National Championships. Today, Dixon enjoys sailing on Tuesday and Wednesday nights during the summer season in Youngstown on a C&C 35 boat. He looks forward to another great year at Youngstown as he heads into his second year of coaching Optis at the Youngstown Yacht Club.



Katie Braungart

 is an experienced sailor and avid racer who grew up sailing in Crystal Beach, Canada. 2020 will be her sixth summer coaching Dinghy Demons in Youngstown.She also coaches High School Sailing in Buffalo during the school year. Outside of coaching she spends her summers racing lightnings and keelboats out of Crystal Beach. Katie recently graduated from Canisius College with a degree in Special Education. She is very excited to spend another summer teaching in Youngstown.



Lucy Doyle 

is a lifelong sailor who grew up learning to sail in Youngstown on Prams, Optimists, and 420s.  In addition to her time on small boats, Lucy has experience on larger keelboats as well. She is in her final year at Sacred Heart Academy, where she participated in high school sailing.  Lucy enjoys racing as well as recreational sailing and brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to our program. This will be her second summer as a coach in Youngstown and she greatly looks forward to working with our Opti sailors.



Jackson Rogers

 is a third generation sailor and club member. He has lived in Youngstown for his whole life. Jackson first started sailing when he was 2 weeks old on his grandfather’s C&C 27. He has participated in the Youngstown Junior Sailing program growing up and races locally on a Beneteau 36.7. Jackson is also employed by the Youngstown Yacht Club maintaining the grounds.  He is in his second year coaching Dinghy Demons. Jackson is going to college for Aerospace and Computer Engineering, and he wishes to work for Boeing one day.
